Welcome to SELA
The Sports Empowerment Leadership Academy is a purpose driven non-profit founded and led by power couple, Jamie and Terry Aydelott, known for their deep commitment and tireless passion to uplift communities in need with sports, education and active mentoring as their platform for change. This creative approach continues on in SELA’s year round programs today. SELA partners with local businesses, government, community organizations and schools to leverage resources where collective the collaboration of providers can offer struggling youth a chance and support for better.
Over the past 20 years, they have been the volunteer engine behind various youth enrichment programs on Long Island with central focus on Freeport/ Baldwin/ Roosevelt areas impacting the lives of over 400 youth and their families year over year. SELA programs incorporate literacy, health and wellness, diversity, and inclusion, mentoring (on and off the court) and unity in the community.
Our Programs
Power Up Youth Series Program
Youth Summer Basketball Program reaching 250 at-risk youth offering structured and safe play Monday to Thursday from 6 to 9 pm.
Power Time Program
Monthly mentorship, life skills and career readiness sessions to strengthen and empower at-risk minority youth between the ages of 17 and 24.
